The stage adaptation of Steel Magnolias was the play I directed my senior year of High School. I directed all aspects of the production, including the set construction, production design, and technical direction, by designing the lighting and sound plots. I delegated assignments based on site plans, project needs and knowledge of individual team members. I instructed the actresses with stage directions and emotional coaching. I produced and directed the social media aspects, by creating a promotional video, designing posters, reaching out to businesses in the community, and taking promotional pictures. In order to become a senior director, I had to have been enrolled in advanced drama class for all four years of high school and have completed all of the technical crew and performing requirements needed: being apart of set crew, props, costumes, hair and makeup, house crew, lights, sound, stage management, and assistant stage management. I needed to have also been a part of the school drama club, ITS (International Thespians Society) and have helped construct set pieces prior to the play. Steel Magnolias ran for two weekends, and generated a considerable amount of revenue for the drama department. As director, I chose Steel Magnolias as my senior play in order to produce a performance that allowed six young, diverse women to share their stories in a positive and entertaining environment. I dedicated over 100 hours to rehearsing, planning, and directing this performance.
